HP Retired Police K9 Health Fund

Don protégé
High Point Canine Solutions (HPCS) is owned by police officers with a combined 64 years of police service; we are truly cops training dogs for cops.  Our work consists of training K9’s preparing them to go to work helping to protect us all and these dogs would lay down their lives for their handlers (partners).  As trainers, we train the dogs to do a specific job; their partners, provide the dog a companion, a home, unconditional love and it some cases, save each others lives.

Retirement pensions and after retirement health benefits are well deserved by our police officers, but have you ever thought about the health benefits of a retired K9?

Well, unfortunately, there are not any.  This responsibility falls to the officer who adopts the dog – the same dog which put its life on the line every day protecting our community and the officer beside him.

With the cooperation of the High Point Police Department and FOX8, we will be conducting a joint fundraiser for the High Point Police and Archdale Police Departments. These two agency K9 Units train together, rely on the other when K9 unit support is needed during emergency situations as well as supports outlying agencies when the need for additional K9 support arises.  Funds raised will go to support the retired police canines of these two great agencies.

The proceeds of this fundraiser will be designated solely for support of these two agencies retired police canines.  During their active duty lives, these highly trained and devoted animals get nothing but superior care and attention. After the K9 officers retire, the handlers who adopt them in retirement maintain this level of care and support so that their K9 partners can enjoy life during retirement.

This level of care can be a significant expense and the handlers are paying for this care out of pocket. Adding $50-$100 to anyone’s budget could be a strain and stressful.  The dietary expense of a police canine can exceed $50.00 per month for food alone.  What really makes it tough is the unexpected medical expenses for an injury that occurred on the job (no workers comp here) or the illness of old age (copays aren’t accepted by the vet) or the dreaded serious illness (no insurance for this) – those expenses can be in the thousands.

Please give as your heart leads you to help our heroic officers care for their K9 partners who unconditionally sacrificed daily and willingly.

All donations to this cause will qualify for tax consideration as the fund is being administered as a 501(c)(3) charity.
