Support Retired Newark Officer’s Family After Home Explosion

Our hearts are heavy as the Gilbert family comes to reality with the devastating aftermath of the house explosion that rocked their lives in South River, New Jersey.
Kevin Gilbert Sr., a retired member of the Newark Police Force from 1990 to 2016, was taken from us in a moment of unfathomable tragedy. As we mourn his loss, we find ourselves overwhelmed by the outpouring of love and support from our community.
Kevin Sr. is survived by his wife Cleveena and his children Kevin Jr. (KJ- P.O. of Somerville NJ), Indirah, and Khalena, as well as his parents Eulalia Gilbert and the late Roosevelt Gilbert. Kevin Sr. is brother to Darren, Tyjuan, Juan, Rahman and Hassan, Father-in-law to Rabia (Nazish) and Jeston, and Grandfather to Jasier, Elias, Tamaaj, Kalis, and Kasidi. Our hearts ache not only for Kevin Sr. but also for his Brother-in-law Curtis, who remains in critical condition as a result of the home explosion.
Kevin Sr. was more than a retired police officer; he was the rock of the Gilbert family, a devoted husband, a loving son and father, as well as a friend to many. His commitment to serving others, both in his career and within the home, was unwavering.
Cleveena, KJ, and Rabia have lost not only their beloved Kevin Sr. and their home, but also all that they held dear within it. The road ahead is long and uncertain, but with the support of our community, we will not let them walk alone.
The Hassan Family has established this GoFundMe campaign to provide assistance and contributions that will help cover funeral expenses for the dearly departed Kevin Sr. and to aid the Gilbert Family in their attempt to rebuild all that they have lost. We know only time can heal their wounds but our goal is to help ease as much of the pain and uncertainty as we can.
We, the Hassan family, directly related to Rabia (Nazish), are starting a fundraiser to support the Gilbert Family, Rabia’s in-laws. This effort is to help alleviate the challenges they face after losing everything and having to rebuild their lives. All contributions will go directly to KJ, Cleveena, and Rabia (Nazish) as they attempt to recuperate. Every donation, no matter the amount, makes a difference in the Gilbert Family’s journey toward healing and recovery. Your kindness and generosity serve as a reminder that even in our darkest moments, we are surrounded by love and compassion within our community.
