"The surest way to keep a people down is to educate the men and neglect the women. If you educate a man you simply educate an individual, but if you educate a woman you educate a family."-- Dr. J.E. Kwegyir Aggrey, visionary Ghanaian educator.
The 1989/91 year group is appealing for your kind assistance to support the students of St. Mary's Girls' Senior Secondary School at Korle-Gonno in Accra, Ghana.
The school was established in February 1950 by Catholic Missionaries with an initial enrollment of ten (10) girls. Over the years, the student population has grown to over 1,000 students; however, facilities at the school have not seen much expansion or improvement.
The 1989/91 year group is undertaking a project to build a modern 10 seater restroom facility near the classrooms. Students currently walk 10 minutes to the dormitories to use the restroom. The estimated cost of the project is $30,000.00. The group will raise about 30% of the total cost from its own resources through levies and contributions from its members.
In a 40-minute lesson, any student who has to use the restroom is likely to miss at least 20 minutes of instructional time.
Please support the 1989/91 alumni to alleviate this problem for the school.
