Restore the Basics for Bev & Family

Two months ago today (June 5, 2018) while reading email, I noticed the plea below from an18-year-old Granddaughter trying to help her 72-year-old Grandmother and disabled Mother. I felt compelled to respond knowing they were still without electricity and wanted to help.

Bev, the Grandmother is the widow of a U.S. Navy and Air Force Veteran, a Diabetic and struggles with Neuropathy. She works 10 hours a day, 5 days a week babysitting. Her Daughter was injured in a car accident several years ago, resulting in lasting nerve damage to her back and legs that left her disabled. Her Granddaughter, Brhie works at a nearby restaurant 6 days a week as a Server.  Together, they’re barely able to make ends meet to pay bills, buy groceries and gas. Bev works miracles with her basic, monthly Social Security check. They’re doing the best they can with what they have to work with - it’s simply not enough to cover major repairs.

Background

Help my family please! Hello neighbors!
My name is Brhie and I and my family live in a home that was built back in the ‘70s. Two months ago while we were all home watching TV half of our house’s electricity went out. We’re still not sure of the reason or cause for this, but unfortunately, it’s still out to this day. We think we may need to replace the entire breaker box and the breakers inside of it since it is from the ‘70s.

It’s been a major struggle for us and unfortunately, we’re extremely tight on money. My 72-year-old grandmother (the homeowner) is on social security income. My mother is on disability. I myself work as a server at a nearby restaurant. I do what I can to keep us afloat.

We’re in need of anyone who would be so kind and generous to stop by and give the issue a look and offer their expertise and/or input. We cannot call an electrician because we can’t afford the basic fee of them just coming out to the house. Let alone can we afford the actual service fees.

We’ve been in a tight bind these past couple of months as we’re already months behind on other bills and are receiving disconnect notices on just about everything.

If ANYONE knows of ANYONE who can help me and my family out, PLEASE shoot me a message on here. It would be greatly appreciated. God bless y’all!

Brhie's comments about the responses to her post

I’ve received an overwhelming amount of prayers and abundance of neighborly love to my last post.  And I just want to say how truly grateful my family and I are for Mr. Tom’s generosity to come out and look at the box. God has bestowed many blessings upon us.

But we need more help.  The electrical box must be replaced. It doesn’t have enough power - just 100amps and that won’t support our house. We thought the A/C condenser and evaporator coil needed freon, but it also needs to be replaced. Both are over 25 years old. They told us our windows (original, 46 years old) weren’t keeping as much of the cold air in anymore. We understand but don’t have the money. Summer is fast approaching, and the heat gets brutal here in Texas.  We’ve done without other basics but desperately need electricity and air-conditioning.

All of our repair problems started a year ago – the refrigerator stopped working, we used styrofoam containers with ice for 3 months until a neighbor moved and gave us their refrigerator, then the built-in microwave over the stovetop stopped working, followed by the oven. It’s just been one problem after another for us and we can’t seem to get caught up.

How the funds will be used
All funds will be transferred directly to Bev.

Replace electrical box-$1,005 (replaced in late April!)
Replace A/C condenser/evaporator coil-$6,140 (replaced in early May - supplier agreed to payments,
1st payment made!  Funds needed now for 2nd payment )
Replace built-in microwave over stovetop - $618
Replace oven  - $1,710
Replace non-working windows -  $6,781
Total -  $16,254

How you can help!

Any donation will help make a huge difference in their lives. Bev & family will be forever grateful for your kindness and generosity.

I'm no one special to this family. It took courage for Brhie to reach out and ask for help.  I couldn't move forward with my day without trying to help Brhie help her family. Please help us reach our goal!

Thank you for your time and if possible, your contribution.
