Wexford Person Of The Year 2018 Claire Malone needs surgery to increase her life expectancy.
The surgery is to correct post-pneumonectomy syndrome arising from a right lung removal in 2014. The surgery involves inserting a prosthetic gel bag into the cavity and repositioning the heart. The surgery is life-saving.
The HSE does not have the expertise to perform this essential procedure and so we must raise the funds necessary for the operation to be performed in the Cardiac Department of the Mater Private Hospital.
Claire has always been a giver in life. She set up Wexford People Helping People with one simple idea, create a community Christmas Day Dinner for people who are alone or struggling.
She set about it by organising fundraisers and reaching out to the local community. The event has been successfully run for the past 3 years.
Throughout these years Claire has had her own health issues, but continued with her vision of creating a sense of community here in Wexford. Most people in Claire's position would struggle to cope with their own situation. Claire never shied away from her commitment to the project she initiated.
We are a group of friends and colleagues of Claire's, we know that a beautiful kind soul like Claire's is a blessing to our community and we are hoping to fundraise the cost of the operation in order to give back some of the great work she has done for our community and give her the opportunity of seeing her three children grow up.
We are setting-up a GoFundMe campaign as well as some events to highlight and give the campaign momentum.
In order to succeed with this fundraising campaign, we will need sponsorship and contributions from local businesses.
We invite you to get involved and help us achieve a successful fundraising campaign to raise the cost of the operation and aftercare required.
The venues and artists have all given their time and resources free of charge to help maximise the fundraising outcomes.
Any contribution you can give would go a long way to helping us achieve our target.

We as a group of close friends of Claire's set up a Credit Union Group account called "Respect Fund For Claire" Wexford Credit Union ACC: 64891/C.
The gofundme support team couldn't work with this type of account so we rectified this by using a bank account of Committee member Tara Casey in order to hold and withdraw gofundme donations. Donations will be withdrawn by Tara with one other committee member as witness, as agreed, and deposited to our Credit Union Group account.
Tara Casey is a trusted friend of Claire Malone, and this is done with Claire's expressed permission and gratitude.
Again 2 members are required by contract to withdraw money from a Credit Union Group account.
All of Claire's medical bills will be paid from our Credit Union Group account.
All statements from this account will be transparent and justifiable and available upon request by the Irish Revenue.
