Reasearch and Education in Baja, Mexico - an opportunity of a lifetime!
I started teaching because I love to help others learn and discover how amazing the world is around them. I've been teaching high school science since 2011 which makes this my 7th year teaching. While teaching Chemistry every year, I've also taught Biology and now Physics to students who walk into my classroom thinking science isn't for them and they leave with a joy of discovery they never expected.
Every year I search constantly for professional development opportunites to improve my skills and be the best teacher for my students. These kinds of programs are hard to find and even harder to find ways to attend. The opportunity provided by EPI to join their 2018 Teacher Fellowship team to attend their program in Baja, Mexico is amazing. The goal of the program is to reasearch marine and island ecology while being able to interact with fellow teachers from across the US and world in order to improve our ability to connect life experiences with our classrooms. It even provides teachers with an experience that they could potentially provide to their own students on a similar trip in the future.
EPI Teacher Fellowship Information
This is truly an amazing opportunity, but I need help. I'm raising money to help off set the out of pocket costs including the program fee ($350), airfare ($800-1200), and personal expenses which include pet care for the 8 days I'll be gone ($500) and miscellaneous gear for camping.
I'm hoping to raise at least $350 in the first week to pay the program fee before its due date (Nov 12th) and then the airfare by mid-December. The rest will be needed by the end of February as I prepare to travel for the program itself.
