At the moment Cheung is maintaining a skeleton staff. These locals are on a 50% retainer through these tough times. Many other islanders are also missing the tourist trade in the greater community. With ZERO bookings for the coming season Siboya Bungalows will very likely have no income until Q4 of 2021. He said "How can I let one of them go, that wouldn't be fair to the rest, they all have families to support."
With Thailand and most of the other SEAsia countries having closed borders, Siboya Bungalows is in dire straights. Cheung, his family and the small number of reliant staff, will be bankrupt without help.
I am Robert Patchett, (Victoria, BC, Canada) and met Cheung in 1988 while backpacking in SEAsia. I have watched his constant struggle to provide an out of the ordinary resort, 'far from the madding crowds'. He has always been very humble, just trying to create good will and a modest life for his family and staff.
