Rescue Lulu and Baby Adam from the Siege on Rafah!

Urgent Appeal:

Urgent request to fund Lulu (7 years old) and Adam (5 months) across the border to Egypt as the bombing and aggression on Rafah increases. Their parents have done everything possible to keep them safe but now feel they have no other option but to leave Gaza. They will leave together as a family, evacuating four people total (two adults and two children) so they can join other family members in Egypt.

The family is in extreme, constant danger due to the military bombardment of their hometown of Rafah; the city is no longer safe for them. They have not been able to work for seven months due to the war so they are living on minimal food and water, little electricity, all while experiencing constant fear and shock. They lost many family members and friends in brutal and unimaginable ways including a recent airstrike on a family member's home. Several members of the family have urgent medical needs and their lives are in danger every moment. Prices have soared in Gaza and it's a daily struggle for them to meet their basic needs.

About Us:

My name is Arwa and I'm an Arab-American psychotherapist living in South Florida, fundraising to rescue our friends Karem and Sheroq, their daughter Lulu, and their baby son Adam from the brutal war taking place in their home of Rafah, in the southern Gaza Strip. Baby Adam (5 months old) was born just two months into the genocide and in his short life has only known war. Lulu (7 years old) has a strong spirit but she is too young to be living through daily bombings and the hunger of food shortages. Just today, members of their extended family were killed in an airstrike; this has finally urged them to evacuate. Please help us get the Zamlis to safety as soon as possible!

Family in Crisis:

Kerem and Sheroq Zamli have two small children who are loved very much and whom they want to be able to pursue their dreams. They try to shield the children as much as they can - however that has become impossible now with widespread loss and devastation everywhere in Gaza.

The Zamli family have asked us to help them cross the border into Egypt where they can begin a journey toward rebuilding their lives. Time is of the essence! Help us get them across the border into Egypt so they are safe from the increasing, indiscriminate attacks on their city of Rafah.

Meet the Family :

Karem turned 30 years old during this war. He owns a small carpentry workshop that provides for his family. Karem is Feras Al Zamli’s brother, for whom we did our last fundraiser. They all live in the same home and hope to do the same upon arrival in Egypt. (You can follow Feras on Instagram at @feras.al.zamli for ongoing updates on the family.)

Sheroq, Karem’s 29-year-old beloved wife, is an incredibly devoted wife and mother, caring constantly for her family. She now suffers numerous health problems, such as anemia, due to malnutrition. Being pregnant and postpartum during the war, with constant stress and food shortages, has been very difficult. Even so, she delights in baby Adam and her daughter Lulu each day.

Lulu is 7 years old and more vivacious than words can describe. She’s a very talented artist with a passion for drawing. Lulu is love by so many in the community due to her outgoing personality and wise presence beyond her years. She loves learning and misses her school and teachers very much. It is difficult for such an incredibly smart girl to be deprived of her education and she looks forward to returning to school in Egypt.

Adam is just five months old, born into this horrific war. Since birth Adam has been surrounded by the loss of loved ones and destruction of his city. He deserves the same opportunities and chances that every child in the world does. He is constantly surrounded by the love and warmth of his family and we cannot risk him losing that so early in life.

All of the family members currently suffer from health problems due to war, lack of resources, and unavailability of healthy food. The Zamli family dreams of traveling to continue their lives in safety and serenity. They aim to provide their children with a safe and secure environment and to join their other close family members in Egypt.

Breakdown of Funds:

It costs $5K per adult to cross the border into Egypt plus $2500 per child. This comes to $15K total for all four of them. They need an additional $9K for travel costs and $1000 for taxes and fees. The total amount needed is $25K.

We also hope to surpass the fundraiser by $2000 to help cover GoFundMe fees and international transfer taxes. All additional funds will go to interim travel expenses such as food and a temporary rental in Egypt.
