Requesting help for Mrs. Camacho's surgery

On behalf of Maria Valentina Camacho, The Camacho-Sarmiento family, and her friends and community, we are asking for support in helping Valentina's mother. Mrs. Camacho (81 years old) fell at home on June 21, 2021, causing a hip fracture on the same leg for which she underwent surgery in 2017. She requires an immediate and somewhat complicated surgery due not only to her advanced age, but due also to other medical conditions (high blood pressure and senile dementia).

As the attached medical report informs, the required procedure will involve removing the retrograde femoral nail from the previous surgery and a hemiarthroplasty, which is the replacement of one half of the hip joint with a prosthetic. Due to the complex nature of the surgery, Mrs. Camacho will require additional care such as an extended hospital stay, blood transfusions and post surgery physiotherapy.

The Camacho family does not have the financial means to cover these expenses and we are reaching out to our friends and colleagues for help.

The estimated budget for the the surgery only is approximately $8,357 USD (see the attached medical quotation) and the average salary in Venezuela is approximately $2 USD per month due to the hyperinflation that the country has experienced in recent years. This is a household of two seniors, a single mother and a nine year old girl with only one salary to share.

As some of you may be aware, Venezuela is in a very precarious situation where the public health system is on the brink of collapse and government assistance is non-existent. The medical expenses include all the tests before surgery, pain medicine, adult diapers, disposable underpads and anxiety medication to treat the post traumatic shock she is currently experiencing since the fall.

The surgeon believes that this surgery will give Mrs. Camacho a better quality of life and she will recover her mobility with the proper care and assistance.

We genuinely appreciate any donation that you can offer. En nombre de Maria Valentina Camacho (Saddy), la familia Camacho Sarmiento, las amigas y hermanas Tarbesianas, nos unimos para apoyar a la madre de Valentina. La señora Boni (81 años) sufrió una caída en su casa el día 21 de Junio del 2021, ocasionando fractura de cadera en su pierna ya operada anteriormente (2017). Boni requiere de operación inmediata, muy delicada; por su avanzada edad y condiciones medicas previas (presion arterial y principios de demencia senil).

Como indica el informe médico anexo, la cirugía involucra retiro del clavo retrogrado de femur por fractura anterior y hemiartroplastia en la cadera, que es el reemplazo de la cabeza femoral por una prótesis. Debido al grado de complejidad de la operación, ella requiere de cuidados extras como hospitalización, transfusiones sanguíneas y un proceso de rehabilitación post quirúrgico que involucra fisioterapia.

La familia Camacho Sarmiento no cuenta con las condiciones financieras para cubrir los altos gastos estimados de la cirugía, por lo cual recurrimos a los amigos y colegas para la recaudación de fondos por esta vía.

El presupuesto de la cirugía se estima en USD $ 8.357 (ver anexo) y el salario mínimo en Venezuela es de $2. El hogar de la señora Boni cuenta con dos ancianos, una madre soltera y una niña de 9 años; con un solo salario productivo para la familia.

Venezuela, como muchos conocen, atraviesa una situación de emergencia hospitalaria con un sistema de salud colapsado, donde la atención médica es precaria y limitada. Los gastos médicos involucran exámenes pre operatorios, calmantes de dolor, pañales, protectores de cama, medicamentos ansiolíticos para controlar los ataques de ansiedad post traumáticos que presenta la señora Boni debido a su edad y el choque emocional de verse en cama imposibilitada y sin movilidad desde el dia de la caída. El especialista traumatólogo confía que la cirugía le devolverá la calidad de vida y le permitirá caminar con asistencia.
