Replace Missing/Stolen Inventory

Last November I went to Equestria LA, my first West Coast convention. I mailed out two large boxes of inventory out there for the show. When it was time to come home, I mailed them back to myself, yet only one returned.
My package was a big box (30 pounds) of handmade art dolls that went missing. They are worth about $1500. I am a full time artist and this is hours and hours of work devastatingly gone.
I mailed them to myself from Anaheim, CA to my home in NC.
I mailed two boxes of identical size and weight to myself on 11/22/2017. Only one got back to me.
I called about said box and the customer service lady LAUGHED and told me if she were me she'd just file for the insurance because I probably wouldn't get my box back.
I also question if it wasn't stolen by actual post office workers, because the label that "came off" of it looked neatly cut off, and each item in there had my name and contact information on it because I use business cards as price tags.
I waited til near the end of the period to file a claim, because she said once I file a claim for insurance and you pay me, you will no longer search for the box and I won't have a chance of seeing it at all.
I'm currently fighting tooth and nail for them to make good on the $500 insurance I bought, but even then, I have $1000-$1500 down the hole. I'm having to appeal now with invoices of my clients because they're trying to say my plush aren't worth the $500.

I am a small business owner and a recent graduate. This work and money is my livelihood. I need it. I hate asking for money like this, but it is so much time and inventory (again, handsewn items) that went missing. It's SO much work, and because of my physical condition I have to manage my energy. Trying to do this own my own seems sisyphean.

Thank you for reading. I hate that it's come to this. This is truly my worst nightmare come true. I'm hearing that UPS and Fedex are better about settling claims, and in the future, I will go through them for valuable packages.
