Help Our Nanny's Family

Donation protected
We are raising funds to help the family of our children's nanny, Iris, who live in Nicaragua, and who lost everything in the wake of Tropical Storm Nate.  Iris has taken care of our kids since we moved to Costa Rica over five years ago.

In early October this year, Tropical Storm Nate originated in the southwest Caribbean near the border of Panama and Costa Rica.  Nate turned northwest, slamming the Nicaraguan coast.  Flooding and winds damaged or destroyed 5,953 homes, affecting approximately 29,000 people in Nicaragua, most of whom live in the Rivas Department, where Iris's family home sits on the island of Ometepe in Lake Nicaragua.  At least 16 people were killed and one other was reported missing.

Thankfully, Iris's family is safe.  However, the family's home and crops were destroyed.  Their house, where Iris’s parents, siblings, and one of Iris's daughters live,  is uninhabitable, and their source of income and sustenance is now gone.  All eight of them are currently staying at another family member’s small home along with the four people who already live there.

We hope to be able to send some emergency funds (our target is $5000) to Iris's family so that can begin repairs to their home and sustain themselves until their crops can grow back.

Thank you for your support!

Geoff and Susan Davis (and Lyla, Alex and Macey), Santa Ana, Costa Rica.
