Cafe Citta opened its doors on Church St in Cardiff City Centre in 2009 during the last deep recession. Difficult times. Back then, Church Street was never really a destination but we knew that with hard work, commitment and honest homemade great food, people would come and that proved true. It felt, for years, like we were an oasis on a deserted street.
By March 2020, Cafe Citta had become a community bistro with hundreds of customers visiting regularly. As a small family business, surrounded by big chains, customers have consistently shown their appreciation of small independents. Other businesses have since opened their doors and the area has improved 10 fold.
In March we had to close our doors due to coronavirus and have managed for the last six months to continue paying business rent, determined to reopen when the time is right. We find ourselves now in a very different position.
We planned to reopen on October 3rd but were not able to with any amount of confidence. There is significant maintenance work to be done, staff wages to supplement, rent to continue paying and all whilst still being closed and receiving no income.
We have set up this page in the hope of raising money so that we are able to reopen as soon as restrictions allow, something we have not been able to do as one family member has had to shield.
