Help single mom - Rental Housing Scam

A member of my family was scammed out of $1700.00 for a rental property.
She had searched and found this property online. She never thought twice about the online search since she had found her current residence on the same website. She found a property on this site and communicated with someone whom she thought was the property owner/manager. She was instructed to send a deposit and first month rent totaling $1700.00. After the money was sent, she was given instructions on obtaining the key to the home. After moving her family, which includes a set of 15 year old twins, from Greensboro NC to Raleigh NC, this rental home turned out to be a scam. She is out of 1700.00 and has to moved to another home - which has additional expenses. Any help you can provide would be greatly appreciated.
