In 2017, Rennae was going throughout her normal life as she does working at "Miss Myra BBQ Pit" which is a family-owned business in Vestavia Hills, Ala. Things were moving along quite well until she received some devastating news - diagnosis of "Stage III" Non-Small Lung Cancer.
In this stage, tumors are more than 3 cm wide and causes great impact on the body. The treatment options were chemo and radiation. However, due to the location of the tumor, it would have caused burning in the aorta and esophagus with possible impact to the heart.
Two days before treatment was to begin, the family was informed of another treatment option - "Proton". This therapy option is used for treating solid tumors because they can be controlled precisely(pinpoint) the location of the tumor. In essence, there is less radiation of normal tissues which helps prevent serious complications and lessens the chance of secondary tumors developing.
After (38) treatments at a cost of $79,000 dollars which was not covered by their insurance causing surmountable expenses to be incurred. Rennae's spirit was kept very high through the support of her family, community and church during this time of distress.
Rennae resumed her daily activities, but within a few months she was told that her cancer was in remission. Everyone was rejoicing of the great news. However, their joy was turned into sadness because the another tumor was discovered in October of 2018.
The family was devastated, but continued to trust that God that he would give them wisdom and strength to endure yet another heart ship.
The cost of a second treatment will cost $66,000 dollars, but $63,000 if paid all at once since the insurance company does not cover this type of life-saving treatment which causes no side effects!
