Renata Scorza Muniz is a vibrant and independent 11-year-old, who aspires to be a prima ballerina. Renata attends San Diego Creative and Performing Arts, a competitive arts middle and high school, and she has been dancing with San Diego Civic Youth Ballet since she was four. Recently, she was accepted into the American Ballet Theater Summer Intensive in Dallas and was very excited to go. However, three weeks ago Renata was diagnosed with a suprasellar optic pathway glioma . Renata’s brain tumor has resulted in hypopituitarism, adrenal insufficiency, and visual field changes with severe vision loss in her left eye, and near complete vision loss in her right eye.
Renata has been suffering from worsening vision, and it is our hope with the initiation of treatment, it will begin to improve. However, the loss she has is chronic and likely permanent. Renata has begun treatment at Rady Children's Hospital in San Diego and because her tumor is non-surgical, she will be undergoing chemotherapy treatment for over a year. Rodrigo and Cris, Renata's parents, are seeking support to cover some of the current hospital bills, and future expenses related to her treatment.
Please consider donating to this GoFundMe campaign to help Renata continue to pursue her dream despite her eminent physical disability.
