Remembering Pete- Oncology Clinical Trials Unit

Donation protected
In Loving memory of Peter Cameron ... our Dad, Poppy & Friend

We are raising $10,000 to go to the Medical Oncology Clinical Trial Unit based at the Calvary Mater Hospital in Newcastle,
which is SELF-FUNDED.

To top it off, when we get to the $10,000, Mum & Dad discussed before Dad passed that they are going to MATCH the donation, to get us to $20,000!

If you need any more incentive, if we make it to $10,000 before Mum & Dad’s donation, Meg is going to SHAVE her HEAD!

We have added the Authority to Fundraise from the Clavary Mater Newcastle Hospital.

In memory of our Dad, Husband, Poppy and friend, Peter Cameron, we’d love to raise $20,000 to donate directly to the team of legends who organise and run the Cancer Clinical Trials, like Dad was on, to help change the course of cancer treatment for all of OUR futures.

Who are these legends and what do they do?-

The team specifically involved with Dad’s trials are self-funded, so would benefit immensely from the funding.

They’re based at the Calvary Mater Hospital in Newcastle.

A note from the team ...
"The Medical Oncology Clinical Trial unit is a self-funded unit that provides cancer patients of Newcastle and the Hunter valley with opportunities for the latest clinical trials.
We have many very dedicated oncologists who are committed to Cancer research and this donation would greatly assist their ability to do "home grown" research."

Pete’s Cancer Journey -

Dad had a massive Cancer journey, as so MANY others with this horrid disease.
Dad's specific Cancer was Unresectable Non-Clear Cell Renal Cell Carcinoma (an absolute mouthful and basically it is a rare form of Kidney Cancer).
Dad had his first surgery to remove the original cancer & a kidney, almost 30 years ago. It was then undetected and sneakily growing for the following 28 years. During that time there were other issues that Dad had, such as issues with his diet and what foods he could eat without becoming incredibly ill, as well as severe leg & back pain. When it was finally discovered that his cancer had returned, it was BIG and it was still growing.
Then he had Radiation 3 years ago which halted growth on the bulk of the cancer, but there was still a sneaky bit that kept growing. He went in for surgery, but unfortunately it was all so tangled from the first surgery and years of growth that the surgery was unsuccessful. With no other viable options on the table he was SO fortunate to be selected for a clinical trial- the clinical trial was run through the Calvary Mater Hospital Newcastle- an Oncology Clinical Trial.

This was the most incredible 18 months!
Dad was an absolute STAR patient!!

Pete & the Clinical trial-

Being a part of these immunotherapy clinical trials gave Dad an extra 18months of good life, where he had the chance to do a bit more travel, meet 2 new grandchildren and spend quality time with his family.
Medical specialists deemed him as one of their star patients, always coming in with a positive attitude, a willingness to try new things, and exceptional gratitude for his being part of the work they do. Whilst we know that Dad is a legend, these medical people are everyday heroes. Getting behind the work they do not only gives people with strange, unusual and often terminal cancers a chance at life, but their work IS changing the course of cancer treatment and outcomes for our future. It’s bloody amazing!

Why GoFundMe? -

We asked about organising donations to go straight to the team at the Calvary Mater, but to get the money to the Clinical trials team is a slightly more complex process.
We have decided the best way to gather the funds is to do a donation page on GoFundMe, then we can ensure the money goes straight to the right people via one big donation in Dad’s name, from all of us!

Even when this page is not active, you can ALWAYS  donate directly to the Mater Hospital Newcastle. Please get in touch before you do so that we can give you the Special CODE to ensure the funds go to the Medical Oncology Clinical Trial Unit.

All of these photos were taken AFTER Dad was on the Clinical Trial.

None of these photos and the millions of memories we've created over the past 18 months would have been possible without the incredible work of the ABSOLUTE LEGENDS that are working tirelessly to vanquish cancer.

Cancer touches SO many people. Three out of the 5 original members of the Cameron Family have been diagnosed and treated for some type of Cancer.

We are sending all our strength to EVERYONE who is moving along their own Cancer Journey, or helping a loved one as they battle too.

THANK YOU SO MUCH!
