Rehabilitation after head injury
Donation protected
From 23 rd of June I have been on holiday in Poland. On 29 th of June, together with my friends I went to the annual Rally of Poland in Mikolajki town.
On that day, while standing among the rest of the audience supporting the race, I was hit by the rock from underneath the race car’s wheel in the temporal parietal area of my head.
Immediately after the incident I was transported to the hospital in Mragowo whence I was transported further
to the specialized hospital in Olsztyn.
Due to my life-threatening condition, I underwent surgery of hematoma and fractured bone pieces removal on the left side of my head.
After the surgery I had been in a medically induced coma for 5 days and my condition was described by doctors as “serious”.
In addition, the jugular vein catheterization caused the pneumothorax in my right lung. After awakening I have been treated at the Neurosurgery Department and from 17 th of July onwards at the Rehabilitation Department due to the temporary speech disorder
caused by the surgery.
Although the doctors are satisfied with my progress the time of full recovery is established as approximately 6 months.
During my rehabilitation process, I am unable to come back to Ireland and continue my employment. My initial surgery has been covered by European Health Insurence Card, unfortunetaly whole rebalitilation process has to be covered by me.
