Long Term Rehab for Betys

Many of you have already heard, but for those of you who haven’t, my wife Betys was in a car accident on Tuesday, March 20th, where she lost control of her car and hit a tree. By the grace of G-d she did not sustain any brain or internal organ injuries. However, she did sustain many orthopaedic injuries which she is now currently in the process of recovering in the hospital.
A little history on Betys, Betys contracted polio at the age of three which has left her with significant disabilities. She is completely wheelchair dependent and requires assistance for most activities of daily living. Nonetheless, she is extremely self sufficient and has continued to work full time for the government as she has been for the previous 30 years. She is my inspiration and always has been.
Unfortunately, the severity of the accident will require the highest level of rehab Betys has needed since she contracted polio nearly 60 years ago. While we hope that the long road ahead will lead to a full recovery including her ability to return to work and drive. This will likely require many months of work. We hope to be at a point where we can worry about replacing her adaptive vehicle to return her to independence. However, in the short term, the tremendous expense of getting her back home, off a ventilator will be exorbitant. Any amount that you can contribute will be an enormous help in our efforts to get her back to herself. To a place where she can go back to her job and her life that she loves.
Our entire family appreciates so much everyone’s concern, prayers and outpouring of support. Please continue to keep her in mind during your prayers (Chaya Bailah Masha Bat Zissel) for a complete and speedy recovery. We will update everyone on her progress as time allows.
