Support Refugees on Lesbos, Greece

The NGO:
On Dec. 17th, we will be travelling from Los Angeles to Lesbos, Greece for 2 weeks, to volunteer with Refugee4Refugees, an NGO founded by Omar Alshakal, a Syrian refugee. He fled when ISIS took control of his hometown of Deir Ez-Zor. He arrived in Greece as a young man with few resources (he actually swam across the Aegaen from Turkey) and worked his way through the system, eventually receiving asylum in Germany. He decided to return to Greece to help others following in his footsteps. He saw firsthand the weaknesses of the asylum-seeking process and decided to focus his efforts on improving the initial response for new arrivals.

The refugee crisis on Lesbos continues to be grave. The EU and the local Greek government continue to make it difficult for refugees that are fleeing their war-torn countries- but they keep coming. In Oct alone, 2239 people arrived onto the tiny Greek island. Winter is here and people are living in tents with poor conditions. The main camp at Moria is currently housing almost 8000 people but is equipped to hold only 5500.

We will be working with Omar and his team assisting arriving refugees, serving meals, and distributing clothes. We both work in film and time permitting we will document our experience.
All donations will go to refugee support--food, clothes, medical supplies. We appreciate your support!
Our Goal: $2,000
100% of donations will go to directly support refugees.
