Refugees Food Cold Storage Fund

Hi, my name is Tony McNamara from Bracknell, Berkshire, UK.

I have a building in Ozorków, central Poland which I am currently using to support 25 refugees from the Ukrainian humanitarian crisis.

I’m also supporting financially and operationally a second building in the centre of our town which will house up to an additional 40 refugees as the crisis grows.

I initially prepared myself for 8 refugees but as needs grew and the crisis worsened, 8 was simply too little.

My heart couldn’t turn away those small children that were arriving at the border so after 2 Ukrainian trips and people arriving at my door, we now host 25.

I have purchased all the necessary mattresses, bedding and furniture to support this crisis in addition to medication and clothes. However I never considered how difficult it would be to keep the required amount food fresh for so many people. Currently we use a chest freezer and 2 x family refrigerators but it doesn’t allow for even half the food to be stored without spoiling.

Our makeshift solution is to keep the fresh food close to the inside of a garage door so it’s frost free but cold. As the weather turns during spring, this solution will unfortunately no longer work.

My friends suggested to me that they need to help because I’m taking way too much on my own shoulders. This was the solution they came up with.

What I am trying to to is fundraise for the purchase and fitting of an industrial style refrigerator or at least a significant household refrigerator/cabinet that can keep all this remaining food fresh.

We do not have much time before the weather gets warm enough for food not refrigerated to spoil that same day.

And as we have 3 diabetic refugees, we also need cold storage from their insulin medication which is in short supply.

I myself will continue to support the refugees in every other way as that’s the commitment I made, however if I could please ask you to just donate for this one item, our lives would be much improved and healthier.
