Last year (April 2019), a group of dental students and faculty from The Ohio State University embarked on a service trip to Jordan and joined the non-profit Atlantic Humanitarian Relief (AHR) in providing free dental care to Syrian refugees in Al-Zaatari Camp. With your generous support, we were able to raise about $12,000 and deliver hundreds of boxes of toothpaste, toothbrushes, floss, fluoride varnish, and many other dental supplies. We performed 415 dental procedures and provided fluoride treatment to over 250 kids.
While this was a huge success (watch video below), we realized our work should not end there. As long as these refugees live in deplorable conditions with limited access to dental care, its our moral obligation to use our resources and do whatever we can to help lower their risk for serious oral infections and chronic pain.
So we plan to go back this March, and work again with AHR in providing fillings, extractions, and endodontic treatment. We will place extra focus on disease prevention by visiting more schools where we can deliver oral hygiene instructions and provide fluoride varnish treatment to children that are most in need.
The life-changing impact we were able to have on so many refugees last year would not have been possible without your generosity and we hope you support us again. 100% of your donations will go towards the trip expenses so that these refugees can get the care they deserve.
Please donate generously and help refugees live a healthy life filled with smiles. With better health, these refugees can have a better future!
Thank you so much for your support and please share this with your friends and family!

Date of Service Trip: March 8th - May 12th, 2020
Goals of the Service Trip:
1. Provide free oral healthcare (fillings, sealants, fluoride varnishes and more) to Syrian refugees who have very limited access to dental care
2. Deliver oral hygiene education and essential supplies (toothbrushes, toothpaste, floss, and mouth rinse) to children in the clinic and the schools within various refugee camps
3. Purchase dental supplies and equipment for the dental clinic to keep this clinic functioning and running for the Syrian Refugees.
Your donations will be received by the Arab Dental Society at The Ohio State University. The funds will be used to help cover the cost of dental consumables and equipment, oral hygiene products for hundreds of kids, daily transportation from the hotel to Al-Zaatari refugee camp, and accommodations for 6 nights. Any extra funds will be donated directly to AHR to help them continue their mission. Additional funding may also be used to reimburse the volunteers for their flights from Columbus, Ohio to Amman, Jordan.
This service trip is organized by the Arab Dental Society ( EIN: 832275261) and in collaboration with the registered non-profit 501(c) organization - Atlantic Humanitarian Relief (EIN: 46-1749616).
Arab Dental Society (ADS) is a registered professional student organization at The Ohio State University College of Dentistry (OSUCoD) based in Columbus, Ohio - USA. It aims to serve as the collective voice of the Arab-American dental students at the OSUCoD and provide a community for those involved. A large part of our mission dedicated towards service through an initiative we launched called Refugee Smiles. This initiative aims to provide oral healthcare, education and mentorship to those most in need (particularly refugees and low-income immigrants), both domestically and internationally, with a focus on an annual service trip to an area with limited access to healthcare services.
Atlantic Humanitarian Relief , Inc. (AHR) is a Boston-based and Jordan registered non-profit 501(c)(3) (also non-religious, non-political) organization that began with the determination, dedication and passion of one doctor who could not remain silent at a standstill while so many Syrians were suffering. Since then, AHR has organized biannual, week-long mission trips to Jordan to service refugees in various parts of the country. With a growing team of volunteers from every profession from physical therapists to surgeons, dentists to pharmacists and more, AHR unites people from all over the world to work in makeshift clinics, community centers and refugee camps treating thousands of patients each trip.
