Rediscover Washington and Le Dragon

Like many great adventures, this one begins with a cup of coffee.  Two misfits sharing a mutual passion for history, archaeology and really compelling storytelling - and daring each other to make the first step.

Fast forward six months, the dream has become a reality!  We have been accepted by ADMAT (a maritime archaeological organisation) to join a group of divers and employ our video and photography skills to uncover the wreck of Le Dragon, a ship buried in the history rich sands of the Caribbean.

With over 3 million known shipwrecks on the bottom of the ocean, not every vessel has a stirring tale hidden amidst its ruin.  Le Dragon isn't one of those wrecks.

A spy carrying secret documents crucial to a war…

A ship chased by impossible odds…

And a captain’s sacrifice to detonate his ship to save the mission and his crew from enemy hands...

Discovered in the sands of the Dominican Republic's north coast, this French warship has a story that's the stuff of legends.  And it only gets better...

-  The ship changed three flags from the Americans, to the British, to the French

-  It was likely the first ship built in the Continental Navy after the signing of the Declaration of Independence

-  It was the last ship sunk in the American Revolutionary War

-  And was originally named after American patriot and founding father, George Washington

As incredible as this all sounds, this is history.  And the wreck is lying just meters below the pristine aquamarine surf of the Dominican Republic coast, just waiting to be explored!

To this end, ADMAT has gathered a small team of divers to peel back the layers of the wreck, and reveal the secrets hidden inside its bones. And as two filmmakers with a background in video and photography, we have the chance to showcase this shipwreck as never before, and give you insights as if you were there yourself sifting through the sands in search of history.

So what’s holding us back?

This all involves a major financial hurdle for us.  And while we could ramble on about travel costs, reliable scuba equipment, or hardy video and photography equipment - all of which are absolutely essential to the effort - and prohibitively priced... we refuse to let these budgetary concerns define our cause or motivation.

Instead, we're considering who we can approach to partner with us as co-adventurers!  And therein is the true purpose of our mission since it’s YOU, the people who know and care about these works that will glean the most from them.

Whether you’re a history buff, adventure fanatic, or simply enjoy an epic underdog story - this is a chance to be a part of this mission and have a front-row seat to the history revealing work that will take place.   As the layers of sand and mud are dredged away, you'll see artifacts revealed for the first time since they were lost 235 years ago!  One of them might even be the figurehead of George Washington himself which (if the accounts are true) might still be among the wreck.

And as if that’s not enough, it will be your names that will be credited in the pages of history for bringing this story to life!

By supporting us,
we will together learn the process of excavating a live shipwreck,
share and discuss the results of our findings,
and engage through the experiences during this adventure.

Like all adventures, this one could have simply started and ended with that cup of coffee... a dream and nothing more.  It takes an enormous amount of courage to take a leap of faith, but even more to land on the other side.

Ultimately,  we can’t do this without you, and its only by your support that we can make this dream happen.  So we offer you the chance to journey together with us on this unforgetable adventure to uncover our exciting heritage and past - and be lead by the stories we unearth!

"We should not look back unless it is to derive useful lessons from [the] past… for the purpose of profiting by dearly bought experience."
~ George Washington
