Recovery Fund for Bernardo

Hey everyone,

 

Two weeks ago, our friend Bernardo was on his way home on his motorcycle when he hit a pothole and flew off the bike, fracturing his spine. He was wearing a helmet but the impact from the fall broke his spine leaving him paralyzed from the waist down.

 

He is now recovering from an infection and awaiting surgery to restore function of his legs.

 

While we don't yet know what kind of medical support he'll need in the future, it is clear that Berna has a long road of recovery ahead of him that will put financial strain on him.  These expenses will at the very least include hospital expenses, prolonged physical therapy and medical equipment.   

 

Prior to this accident, Berna was very healthy: an avid boxer, frequent runner and exercise nut who just completed his degree in nutrition at the University of Valladolid. Berna has the goal of using his passion and education to give back to the small fishing village he grew up in, educating young people about healthy eating and empowering them to rise above challenges that come with modest income. Berna has always been a leader in his community, and has worked for the last 5 years with a non-profit dedicated to educating and empowering young people.
