Hi, I’m Samantha. I really appreciate you taking the time to read this. 2021 has been an incredibly weird year for my little family. We got out of an abusive situation in April, but I lost both my job and my vehicle in the wake. I bought a new-to-me car in the middle of June from a well known buy here pay here national chain. September 13th was the first time I went to the ER for nausea and vomiting. Again September 21st, October 14th, October 29th, November 10th, 16th, and 20th. The last visit I was finally diagnosed with carbon monoxide poisoning from a cracked fuel pump that the company I purchased the vehicle from failed to fix when I took it to them when the check engine light came on. They stated it was the catalytic converter and that part wasn’t covered under warranty, even though I had repeatedly told them the car smelled like gas. I went from working in a facility to doing home health between the first and third urgent care visit, which explains the increase in visits. On 11/20, I blacked out while driving to a patients house 30miles away, and between my boss and myself (who I called to tell I needed to go to the hospital) we realized what was happening. I drove back to town with the windows down and sunroof open straight to a shop I trust where my ex husband met me then drove me to the hospital. 4 1/2 hours after exposure my carbon monoxide level was 6.5%. My children thankfully did not have the exposure level I did, but they will still need to see a specialist. So will my 7 year old niece. I was exposed almost daily for 6+ hours a day when I wasn’t missing work. My second job is delivering groceries. I have always been able to work hard to take care of my kids, and this time the harder I worked the sicker I got. I am now 2 months behind on bills, and I have given up on my kids getting a decent Christmas. They’re old enough and they want for nothing, but I would really like to not have to take their home and stability away. I missed so much work at a new job with no health insurance. I don’t know what else to do. Thank you for considering.
