Collection for victims of Eta Hurricane in Nebaj, Guatemala.
The tropical storm Eta that hit the Guatemalan highlands on November 4, has caused multiple damages in the Maya Ixil communities of Nebaj. The water washed away corncobs and the crops (see pictures below). The overflowing of the main rivers and landslides have blocked the passage of important transportation routes. Hurricane Eta destroyed hundreds of homes and thousands of people have been evacuated and need immediate humanitarian aid. These damages cause concerns for food security and health, this within the context of the global pandemic that negatively impacts indigenous communities.
The local municipal and national governments have been absent to provide urgent aid to the affected families. That is why the Ancestral Authorities of Nebaj is collecting aid to transfer it to the thousands of people who need it. The amount raised in this fundraiser will be sent to the ancestral authorities of Nebaj and distributed directly to families in need. Thanks in advance for any kind of support!

La tormenta tropical Eta que golpeó al altiplano guatemalteco el pasado 4 de noviembre, ha causado múltiples daños en las comunidades Mayas Ixiles de Nebaj. El agua arrasó con el maíz y los cultivos (vea fotos abajo). Los desbordes de ríos principales y deslaves han bloqueado el paso de importantes vías de comunicación (ver fotografías abajo). La tormenta Eta ha destruido centenares de viviendas y miles de personas han sido evacuadas y necesitan ayuda humanitaria inmediata. Estos daños causan preocupaciones a la seguridad alimentaria y salud, esto dentro del contexto de la pandemia global que negativamente impacta las comunidades indígenas.
El gobierno local y nacional se han ausentado para proporcionar ayuda urgente que las familias damnificadas. Es por ello que la Alcaldía Indígena de Nebaj está recibiendo ayuda para trasladarla a las miles de personas que lo necesitan. El monto recaudado en esta campaña será enviado a las autoridades ancestrales de Nebaj y distribuida directamente a las familias con necesidad. ¡Gracias antemano por cualquier tipo de apoyo!
