Help rebuild our school in Nepal

Donation protected
Namaste, my name is Alicia.

12 years ago I embarked on a volunteering adventure to Kathmandu, Nepal. On arrival I was placed with a local Nepalese family with four inspirational sisters. By running their own school these incredible women were using
education as a means to make a difference to the lives of 278 underprivileged children in Kathmandu regardless of caste, gender or religion. Having a female run school in Nepal is a feat in itself within a country where around 70 percent of women are illiterate. It was inspirational for me to see the passion these women had towards educating and empowering the children of Nepal and I have worked closely with this school ever since.

After the devastation of the recent earthquakes in Kathmandu I have since found out that the school has been damaged. The District of Education department has declared that 5 classrooms are unsafe, with students now subject to classes in the canteen whilst others are forced to sit outside and take classes.

On top of this one of the landlords (they are currently renting three separate prices of land to accommodate all students)  is now requesting an increase in rental fees. Our immediate goal is to urgently raise enough funds $9,000 to rebuild the damaged classrooms so the children can continue with their studies and provide a glimmer of hope and stability in a time of such devastation.

Our long term goal is to raise enough money to purchase land and secure a permanent premises for the children.

Working directly with this school for more than a decade I have found a disconcerting pattern. Every few years when the landlord increases the rent, due to lack of funds, the school is forced to move premises. Each time this happens (4 times in the past 15 years) the school loses children that are inconvenienced by the move. This has a detrimental impact on their schooling and educational development. Our aim is to take the financial pressure off allowing these incredible women to do what they do best- to educate the children of Nepal.
