Rebuild my hope and home in Gaza

Hello, my name is Dahman. I am a filmmaker and youth activist from Gaza.

I worked for five years in producing Palestinian digital and media content, and I completed my work during the genocide in Gaza, and still working on documenting it despite all the dangers we are exposed to.

I have a wonderful family, and we had a beautiful warm home on the beach of Gaza City in the northern Gaza Strip, but this genocide completely destroyed the city and as well my family lost 4 apartments, which is all we owned.

We lived in the Beach refugee camp, and for those who do not know... the people who suffered the most in the building are the 1948 Nakba refugees because they didn’t own lands in Gaza strip, especially if they lived in UNRWA refugee camps, so Not only did the Israeli occupation displace us for the second time from Gaza city to the south, but it destroyed our house and the neighbourhood completely and prevents us from returning and rebuilding the house and returning to our normal lives.

Now, months after this genocide, we suffer every day from the consequences of war, displacement, and the provision of our life’s necessities. My brother Abdullah was supposed to finish his studies in high school this year, my sister Nagham stopped studying in the tenth grade, my sister Sondos was supposed to start her university studies when This genocide began, and my young nephews are suffering greatly from the spread of diseases and poor living conditions in the tents, and all of this is because of the genocide that Israel is committing against us, and if the situation continues as it is in the next two months, I will evacuate my family to complete their studies, and to live in even better conditions so that their future will not be lost, just as their city, all their memories, and 7 months of their lives were lost!.

For me, I will stay here in Gaza to help my people and homeland until the genocide ends, and then I will rebuild our house, because despite everything I told you, we have hope to return to the northern Gaza Strip to where we were and rebuild our home and our hope, and that’s why we are writing this story for you to help us achieve our dream!

مرحبا، أنا دهمان، وأنا صانع أفلام وناشط شبابي من غزة.. عملت خلال خمس سنوات في انتاج المحتوى الرقمي والاعلامي الفلسطيني وأكملت عملي خلال الابادة على غزة وما زلت أعمل على توثيقها بالرغم من كل المخاطر التي نتعرض لها، لدي عائلة رائعة، وكان لدي بيت رائع على شاطئ بحر مدينة غزة في شمال قطاع غزة، ولكن هذه الابادة دمرت المدينة بالكامل وخسرت عائلتي خلال هذه الحرب 4 شقق سكنية، وهو كل ما نملكه.. كنا نسكن في مخيم الشاطئ للاجئين، ولمن لا يعلم.. فان أكثر الناس معاناة في البناء والسكن في قطاع غزة هم اللاجئين خاصة اذا كانوا يعيشون في داخل مخيمات اللجوء الخاصة بالأنروا.. فنحن بطبيعة الحال أتينا من مدن فلسطينية أخرى قبل 70 عام.. ولم يكتفي الاحتلال الاسرائيلي بتهجيرنا للمرة الثانية من غزة الى الجنوب.. بل دمر منزلنا والحي بالكامل ويمنعنا من العودة لاعمار المنزل والعودة لحياتنا الطبيعية..

الآن بعد أشهر من هذه الابادة، نعاني كل يوم من تابعات الحرب والنزوح وتوفير مستلزمات حياتنا، أخي عبدالله كان من المفترض ان ينهي دراسته في الثانوية العامة هذه السنة، وأختي نغم توقفت عن الدراسة في الصف العاشر وأختي سندس كان من المفترض ان تبدأ دراستها الجامعية عندما بدأت هذه الابادة، وأبناء أخوتي الصغار يعانون بشكل كبيرمن تفشي الأمراض وظروف الحياة السيئة في الخيام وكل هذا بسبب الابادة التي ترتكبها اسرائيل بحقنا، واذا استمر الحال على ما هو عليه في الشهرين القادمين، سوف أقوم بإخلاء أخوتي للخارج لاستكمال دراستهم، وللحياة في ظروف أفضل حتى انتهاء هذه الابادة ومن ثم سأقوم بإعادة بناء منزلنا.. حتى لا يضيع مستقبلهم كما ضاعت مدينتهم وكل ذكرياتهم و7 أشهر من حياتهم! ولكن بالرغم من كل الذي أخبركم به.. لدينا أمل في العودة إلى شمال قطاع غزة الى حيث كنا واعادة اعمار منزلنا وأملنا. لذلك نكتب لكم هذه القصة لتساعدونا في ذلك
