Rebuilding for Carlos in Costa Rica

Donation protected
Hi everyone! Thank you for taking a few minutes out of your day to read this. As some of you may not know, a couple weeks ago a Tropical Storm named Nate hit Central America affecting many countries and people. One of them being Costa Rica where most of my family members live.

This is my uncle Carlos with 2 of my cousins (his daughters) in front of his home. He was recently affected by the tropical storm.

He owns a small piece of land where he built his beautiful humble home. This is his home which is surrounded by lush green trees and a small creek off to the side.
He is an artist who makes a living by handcrafting customized furniture and pieces for people. This is his working studio where he keeps his tools and works on his pieces.

His home was recently torn and washed away by the storm. My family was aware that the storm would hit. So, my uncle put most of his clothes, personal belongings and tools to keep dry in his upper attic. Thinking if the storm hit and flooded his home, his belongings would remain dry. Little did he know how strong the storm would hit. My uncles home was washed away by the creek which became an overflowing river. It not only washed away his home and all his personal belongings, but also his working studio along with his tools, custom pieces, clothes and everything that he worked so hard to obtain. He was forced out of his home by the heavy storm and now only has the clothes and shoes he was wearing that day.

This is what's left standing from my uncle’s home after the storm tore through taking everything with it.

This is what’s left from his working studio. All of his tools and recent handcrafted pieces were washed away.

This is the road in front of his home which was also washed away by the river. There is no way to get to the other side. The land he once owned is now inaccessible and are not livable conditions.

It brings so much sadness to my heart. My uncle is a hippie who works with his hands, lives a simple life and loves the earth. He is now homeless and temporarily staying at my aunt’s house. I'm pledging $1,500 which will go towards providing him with new clothes, shoes and tools to help him start working again. The money will also contribute to helping him start buying supplies to rebuild his new home.

Honestly any little bit helps and I truly appreciate it. In times like these, you turn to your friends and family for help which is exactly what I'm doing today. Let’s help my uncle Carlos get back up on his feet and start rebuilding his home as soon as possible. Please note the funds will be transfered to me and I will be sending the funds to my uncle personally. Thank you!

Thank you guys so much!!!

xoxo Steph
