Rebuilding Rachael and Nicole’s Life in Lahaina

Hi Everyone. The fires on Maui have devastated thousands. Like so may others, Rachael Zimmerman and her partner, Nicole Nakamura, suffered a complete loss of their home in Lahaina. Rachael has been like a member of our family since she cared for our boys when they were young, in Vail, CO - in an effort to return years of kindness, we’ve organized this fundraising effort.
While her story deserves chapters instead of paragraphs, here’s a bit about one of our favorite people:
After a lifetime in Colorado, Rachael has lived in Maui for nearly five years. She realized her dream of homeownership in 2022, when she purchased her condo on Lahaina’s famed Front Street. Rachael and Nicole have been working for the last year on a complete renovation, which they were doing on their own. Together, they laid every tile, every piece of hard wood, and more. They’d just recently completed this labor of love, and were days into enjoying their newly completed home, when they were forced to evacuate suddenly.
In addition to losing her first home, Rachael, who is a professional photographer (rachealzimmerman.com), lost equipment and hard drives carrying most of the work she’s archived throughout her career. This is a profound loss on its own, but will also directly impact Rachael’s ability to earn a living.
As you can imagine, the road ahead feels more like a tsunami rushing out to sea in no singular direction. Funds raised from this campaign will help Rachael and Nicole rebuild their lives.
