Rebuilding Peartree Preschool

Donation protected
On March 5th, 2022  we would be celebrating Peartree Preschool's anniversary and all that we have accomplished over the past ten years. Unfortunately, we are fighting to save our program. Our lease is expiring and we have been experiencing difficulty recovering from the mandated shut downs, capacity restrictions, and increased costs associated with operating during a pandemic. We cannot even consider a rent increase.

Shutting down a preschool that has navigated the pandemic punishes essential workers and attacks educators who risked their health to ensure children had a sense of normalcy during this chaotic time.

Peartree Preschool moved mountains to reopen during this pandemic.  We are asking for your support in order to rebuild our preschool to pre-COVID operations, maintain jobs in our neighborhood, and provide families with high-quality care so they can return to work. .

Childcare programs are essential for many American families.  A lot of early childhood programs have closed throughout New York City.  According to the National Association for the Education of Young Children, 40% of the child care centers in the U.S. say they will be forced to shut down if they don't receive additional assistance. We're not going to allow that to happen to our program.

As a mother, I understand that parents need a nurturing and safe childcare program where children can learn and play, especially during these difficult times.  We made in-person learning a reality for our students so that parents felt at ease while they worked.  To make our facility safe, we installed air sanitizers and special filters in our HVAC units, installed UV light to sanitize classrooms, added additional air scrubbers to every room, heightened hygiene procedures, implemented arrival screenings, and required all community members to wear masks.  We diverted a tremendous amount of resources to reduce potential exposure. Now our preschool needs help.

I opened Peartree when I moved to Harlem and couldn't find a high-quality program in my neighborhood.  Although my children have moved on to elementary school, I want local families to have the same nurturing experience my own did as students at Peartree.

Our mission is to introduce children to the wonders of the world and prepare our students for future academic and social success. We specialize in getting our students into elite public and private elementary schools and helping families secure financial assistance.

Our program is fully run, managed, and owned by women of color. All our teachers and staff are from the neighboring community.  We remain a launching pad for emerging educators and feeder school to competitive elementary schools.

COVID has made it difficult for our program to operate as we did before. However, we do not want our children and teachers to be impacted by it. We are asking for your support to rebuild our program to pre-COVID operations   Your support would help maintain our facility, cover rent, and help us grow.

We would be extremely grateful for any support to help us to continue to meet that mission.
