Two days ago, fire broke out in our old neighborhood of Paco, Manila.
The fire allegedly started when a young couple's heated argument turned into threats of setting their house on fire - which they did. The result: tragedy for some 200 families - including our own.
The fire occurred at mid-day, when it was mostly just the women, elderly, and small children who were home. They were helpless and unable to save anything except their lives. There was no chance nor time and energy to recover and carry away clothes, medicine, food, and other essentials. Later in the day, husbands, sons, daughters and school age children came home to learn that they had nothing left except the clothes home they were wearing.
Families are now cramped in makeshift tents in open streets. In a place where families already had very little, they are now left with nothing but the clothes on their back.
Please help my neighborhood rebuild and recover from the ashes.
