Please help rebuild Rosa's home from the devastating impact of Tropical Storm Amanda that hit El Salvador from May 22 - May 29, 2020. Rosa has worked as a housekeeper with our family for over 30 years. Her daughter, and her son and his wife and newborn all live with her..
The majority of the population especially in the capital of San Salvador live in "barrancos" that are easily damaged by such strong winds and constant rainfall. "Barrancos" are clusters of homes built of weak materials usually tin and wood panels on dirt hills. It is similar to what you may know as the Brazilian "favelas".
Rosa is a family member. She has seen us grow up since we were babies and we have seen her children grow up since they were babies. Rosa has worked with our Abuela (grandmother) and our mother for over 30 years as a housekeeper but she is so much more. Her dedication to this family’s well-being is beyond a job; it’s love.
Rosa's family including her daughter, son and his wife and 1.5 year old son, Mateo, have had to evacuate. She doesn't have insurance as that is not possible for these type of homes. The average monthly income for Salvadorans is $400 a month. The government is extremely overburden with an estimated $200 million dollars worth of damage throughout the country.
Many Salvadorans have lost everything in these storms and we wish we could help all of them; but we can help Rosa and her family!!!
Rosa's home has been deemed uninhabitable and it can not be rebuilt safely where it is because the incline and deterioration of the land that it’s on. We are waiting to see how much aid the government will provide but we know that so many are in need so she will need as much help as possible. Honestly, every little bit counts even $10. I promise.
