Many people have asked me why I have not shared what my family is going through and more directly why I have not posted to go fund me and care bridge about this journey we have been on since 2017.
Up until 2017 I was an advocate working for free for those who are differently abled. Some people say disability. Either way I have done so for 17 plus years for free- training, advocating and making changes happen for people with disabilities.
In some of the training I have given to many persons who work in the field with those who have disabilities I have always said that at any time any one of us can become disabled. Not that I didn't believe in what I said, but it is much harder to live it and walk it and that is what I have been doing since March 14, 2017 when I had an anaphlactic reaction that would cause me to have 4 shots of epi, and the beginning of seizures for me.
Increased seizures began to happen and I would wake up on the floor of my room. One of those times I fell injuring my spine significantly. My body has been on prednisone more than anyone should be for my many anaphlactic reactions that lead me to emergency room visits quite frequently has now shot my pancreas and it is no longer working to control my natural insulin. Fast Forward to July 15th , 2018 our home caught fire. September 2018 our home was damaged even further by Hurricane Florance. We were homeless. Our daughter who just graduated high school, just won an 4 year full academic ride to UNC Chapel Hill College had a total loss of the things she had been working to save for to go to college all gone. Our son, who has autism was attempting to run back inside of the house to get all of his stuff during the fire. Our life as we knew it was changed forever.
My health continued to decline to where I needed oxygen, and a wheel chair, and other specialized equipment.
This is why I have opened up this Go Fund Me page. We need help. My husband works full time and his vacation time he uses to take me to specialist and doctors out of town that require gas, food, copays, medications, and at times nights in hotel because of early procedures or medical testings for me early in the morning. Our house is still in need of repair, and I am in need of specific medical equipment that my doctors have asked for. It is hard to get insurance to pay for them because with my MANY DISABILITIES are so complex, they don’t “Meet” standard quality of care. My physicians have written to the insurance company and other agencies and now my only option is to ask for help here. I need to raise money to purchase these medical items as well as work toward fixing our home so that I can live safer and be more mobile and independent in our house. Please help us even if it is just by sharing this post. We will be updating through carebridge so that everyone can see the needs of our family, medically and physically.
