Mashawish, a family-run neighborhood barbecue shop nestled in a corner of Mar Mkhayel, was destroyed in the Beirut explosion.
This place is not only a restaurant, but a small community of the people who hang out in Mar Mkhayel. Whether for lunch or late dinner, you can always go there for the best mashawi, or Fattouch, or Mergez. The owners - George and Pam - George’s parents, and all the friendly team will take care of you and make you feel at home.
The spot is tiny, yet the community and the generosity is large. This is one of the best family businesses, and they always manage to sustain a consistent high quality of food and service.
George and Pam of Mashawish lost their shop with the Beirut Explosion, and the damages were devastating. Unfortunately George’s mom also sustained an injury because a wall fell on her head from the blast; thankfully, she is now in good shape with few stitches.
The estimations of the damages are no less than $20,000. That’s what it will take to get Mashawish up and running again. Between the explosion, and the total economic collapse in Beirut, coming across this amount of money is almost impossible for folks on the ground, and especially not for a small family-run business. Let's help them get back on their feet.
