Rebuild Himokilan School from Typhoon Odette

On the 15th December 2021, Southern Philippines was hit by the super typhoon Odette. With winds of 160mph followed by heavy rain, the super typhoon has devastated everything in its path destroying lives, land, homes and buildings. This is the 15th storm to hit the Philippines this year and the strongest by far.

 

Himokilan is a thriving fishing village in Southern Leyte and is one of many islands that has been hit hard through Odette’s path. The island is in complete disarray after the disaster with many, if not most people losing their homes, possessions and their livelihoods. The island doesn’t have running water or electricity, and with fuel in scarce supply, this makes it harder for the islanders to travel the 40 minutes across the sea just to get essentials to cook and eat with.

 

With funds we hope to rebuild the school and help the community on the island build and repair homes, give food and water supplies, and give the community some sense of normality. The Super Typhoon has left over half a million people in the Philippines without a home and many struggling to survive and with your donations, we can start to make a difference.

 

My mother was born on this small island and I’d spend my childhood summers there. To see the devastation it has caused is heart breaking.
