Reagents for Organ Transplants for Ukrainian Children

The raging war in Ukraine has severely limited children's access to urgent, quality healthcare, especially for those that need critical transplant surgeries.
In response, as part of our fifth campaign, our goal is to raise $2500 USD to purchase HLA-typing reagents that match bone marrow and organ transplants for children. These reagents will help find a donor for at least 20 children, giving them a chance for recovery. With every dollar you donate, you give the gift of life!
These reagents will be purchased and delivered to the Clinic for Diagnostic Laboratories in Lviv, one of two state-of-the-art PCR laboratory's in Ukraine, which works with Western Ukrainian Specialized Children’s Medical Centre (WUSCMC) to treat 7000-7500 critically ill children that have cancer, rare diseases, or require organ transplants, annually. For those of you familiar with our last campaign, this is the same laboratory and hospital system.
Reagents such as these have enabled 104 children in the past year to receive accurate and prompt matches for kidney, lungs, and bone marrow transplants for children. More specifically, HLA-typing reagents are used to treat various blood diseases, such as blood cancers, bone marrow diseases, and various immune system diseases.

The exact lab reagents, along with their costs, are listed below, and were requested by the hospital directly to Wings of Hope (or Крила Надії), a Western-Ukrainian based humanitarian organization. They have been instrumental in assisting with logistics and contacting the hospital for our past two campaigns. For more information about them, please look at the bottom of this post.
The total cost of all of the reagents is 218,250 UAH, or $5500 USD. Our organization hopes to cover more than half the cost to offset the hospital's economic burden.

1. Who are we?
- We are American Students for Health, a non-profit, grass-roots American student organization that focuses on fundraising for children's hospitals in Eastern Europe. We are cofounded by Daniel Razgonyaev, Alvin Baranov, and Niyazi Kyose. Please take a look at our website for more information.
2. Who are "Wings of Hope"?
- "WINGS OF HOPE" is a charitable foundation founded 2007 that provides assistance to seriously ill children, medical institutions, the wounded (working with hospitals, headquarters and hospitals that help the wounded), tactical medicine (means of providing first aid ), humanitarian aid, support of NGOs that help children, changes in legislation in favor of NGOs and recipients of charitable aid.
- We have direct contact with our family friend Nataliya Lipska, head of Wings of Hope, and she has been essential in providing us the information and the logistical assistance we needed to make this campaign, as well as the previous two, possible.
- They have also worked with Razom previously to deliver critical aid.
3. Why this laboratory? Why reagents?
- This PCR laboratory is not only newly built and contains state-of-the-art equipment, but also is one of two laboratories in the country. They have been absolutely critical in identifying matches between patients and donors, and have coordinated with WUSCMC to help save hundreds of patients per year.
- Every year, as you may know, we coordinate a new campaign with Wings of Hope. This year, we were told that these reagents are their top priority, and are in critical need.
4. What happens to my money after donating? How will you insure that the money isn't stolen but rather spent on the reagents directly?
- After this campaign concludes, all funds will be sent by Daniel Razgonyaev directly to Wings of Hope, who will purchase and deliver the reagents to the laboratory.
- As we have already completed two previous campaigns, we have absolute trust in Wings of Hope and Nataliya Lipska to make sure that the funds reach their proper destination.
