On January 16th, I suffered a stroke. After a week in hospital, I found myself unable to work or properly take care of my family. After 15 years of health, every symptom of my bipolar disorder is back with a vengance, and I've gone from being a productive member of society to feelings of worthlessness and seeing fear in the shadows.
The dedicated support of my friends and loved ones has seen us through the last 6 months, but yesterday I got bad news.
After waiting and finally being able to see a specialist, I learned that the medication needed for me to try to get better, is $2,000 a month, and not covered by insurance.
My dedicated wife has stood by me and our 5 year old son, and is doing everything she can, but we've reached the point where our best is no longer enough.
So on the advice of friends, I'm asking the world to help. If you cannot donate, please share the word or write your representative to ask why our healthcare system is allowed to deny antipsychotic medications when they are needed the most.
