Cross-Cultural Studies in NZ

Hi! My name is Dawn Chance, I'm currently an undergraduate at University of California, Santa Cruz. I am double majoring in BA: Psychology with an emphasis in Personality and Social psychology studies & BS: Cognitive Science. I was selected in 2015 to start my own psychological research in Indigenous Peoples social injustice issues at UCSC with the Pathways 2 Research Program. In 2016, I have qualified and have been selected to continue furthering my study in this area by traveling to Wellington, New Zealand and conducting cross-cultural clinical psychology in the field with the Māori peoples while gaining credit here at UCSC. My life's goal is to use this experience of hands-on training and knowledge of my future career while gaining much needed opportunity to set myself apart for the extremely competitive graduate student pool when I return from NZ and acquire my Double Bachelors degrees in 2016. This wonderful opportunity is being funded for me using my tuition, scholarships, grants & student loans but in order to take my beautiful and intelligent 15 year-old daughter, Raven, with me I need to raise $6,000.00. We will need to live in an off-campus residence because dependents are not allowed in the residence halls and the other half of the money is for her airfare, visa and food costs. Raven will be able to take online schooling from the U.S. or attend an international student high school with an emphasis of her choice in academic or vocational training. I have two part-time jobs that allow us current living expenses, but not enough to save. In my life I have rarely asked those around me for assistance, always feeling the need to be the strongest single-mother I can be. Through the past 10 years I have provided my daughter with everything in my power, even with the complete lack of child-support, but I have never been able to take her on a vacation like most parents can. With this academic opportunity I am here with my arms open asking graciously for the support of my friends and family. If you know me well, then you know that I generally refuse to ask for help, but I want this so badly for my family and feel like if ever there was a reason to ask those I dearly love... Then this is it. Please help me take Raven to New Zealand for the experience of a lifetime both personally and academically!
