Rare LUNG Disease

My twin sister, Elisa Denaburg, of Aiken, SC, has been fighting a chronic cough in her lungs for 10 months and ....finally, a diagnosis. Unfortunately, my sister's pulmonary diagnosis is two VERY RARE NTM, nontuberculosis mycobacterium:
● Mycobacterium Avium
● Mycobacterium Asiaticum
●Candida Albicans(yeast), rarely found in the lungs, has just been treated.
M. Avium lung disease is rare. There is no cure. However, treatment is available. The treatment is several medicines for 2 years, with hopes it will become in remission. If it reoccurs, the treatment begins again.
Unfortunately, there are many serious complications from the disease and the medicines used to treat it. It is not an easy road.
M. Asiaticum is so rare, that there is very little research on this to date. In 1990, the first case of pulmonary disease from M. Asiaticum was reported in the United States.
Queensland, Australia, has reported the only research, as this mycobacterium infection seems to occur in people who live or are in Queensland. In the year 2000, in Australia, 3.8 people in 100,000 were reported to have M. Asiaticum. It is that rare.
In order for my sister to have the best
care possible, she needs to travel to Denver, Colorado, to be evaluated by nation's top authority on NTM, Dr. Gwen Huitt, MD, at the Jewish National Health Hospital. She will be given a treatment plan and begin treatment specifically for her diagnosis. Her local Pulmonogist will be able to continue her treatment and if needed, consult with physicians at JNH.
For the rest of my sisters life, she will continue to incurr medical expenses for all aspects of treatment for this rare lung disease.
I am asking you to help my sister in any way you can, as she is about to enter the biggest trial in her life, for the rest of her life.
