To Uganda for the Deaf

I am going to Kawempe, Uganda the first of June for 7 months and will be volunteering at Boanerges Deaf Initiative (BDI).                                                                                                              The director/founder of BDI is Joel Mwesigwa, a hearing man who had a Deaf brother. Joel's brother became deaf in his early teens. He did some carrying of goods, but it was stolen goods from theives. Joel's brother could not understand what the police were trying to communicate about and the police thought he was being quiet because he had stolen the goods. He was beaten and burnt. Joel and his family found him, collected his ashes and buried him at their family burial site. This is how BDI was founded in 2006.                                                                                                                                  Deaf kids in Uganda are seen as a disease and a curse so some families reject their child, lock them away, and even starve them. Some children are even tied to a tree, treated like a dog. Jesus says we should not let people suffer, He doesn't ask us to help them, He demands that we do. BDI is established to provide education, love, and acceptance to the Deaf in Uganda and to their families.                                                                                                       I live to do the Lords will and He alone I will serve. Our Lord has called me to Uganda to share Christ with the Deaf, to show them the same love and compassion that He has so graciously shown me. So with your help that's where I will go and I will love and give all I can until it hurts, then I will love and give some more. Please help me help the Deaf. God bless. :)
