On Sunday February, 11, my dad was involved in a tragic gas can explosion. He was trying to start a fire in the fire pit when the gas can exploded and saturated him in about 3 gallons of gas. He was on fire for approximately 10 minutes and suffered severe full thickness burns on his face, head, and hands. He received a full skin graft on his face, neck, right hand, and partially on his left hand. He was in surgery for 5 hours and is going to have a second surgery in the next week to fix the cartilage on his ears and nose. We are not sure if this will be his last surgery or if there will be more in the future. When he comes home, he will be receiving home health care and physical therapy until he is well enough to go back to work. It is unknown, at this point, how long he will be off of work. We are asking for $10,000 to cover his maximum out-of-pocket cost for medical expenses and the 33% pay reduction while he is on short term disability. This money will help with medical expenses and the mortgage payment until he is able to return to work.
