Randy Vavricek Memorial Bathroom Fund

Join us in changing the life of a deserving recipient!

In 2001, Daryl Kucera founded MS Forward, a non-profit gym aimed at providing a community workout space for those afflicted with Multiple Sclerosis and other disabilities. For Daryl, MS Forward is much more than a gym, it’s a collaborative space where people with MS can celebrate their lives together and embrace their unique challenges.

Fast forward to 2017, when Re-Bath® of Omaha, one of the region’s top ADA certified bathroom remodelers, joined the cause in bringing awareness to MS, a disease that affects over 7,000 Nebraskans. With the help of Daryl, the Accessibility Bathroom Grant was born. Re-Bath® “donated” the first  fully accessible bathroom to its first recipient, Randy Vavricek.  Vavricek, for whom this memorial is named, received his bathroom in 2018, just months prior to his unfortunate passing. Since then, Re-Bath® and MS Forward have teamed up each year to raise $10,000 toward another worthy recipient’s complete bathroom remodel. Past recipients include: Joann Strilka (2019), Alicia Magana (2020), and David Diggs (2021).

We are proud to announce this year’s recipients, Mike and Patricia Hasty of Omaha, NE. Patti’s journey with MS began with her 1994 diagnosis. Patti was a lifelong educator who had been teaching for 6 years and married for 3 years at the time of her diagnosis. “At the time, I thought my ‘normal’ life was over. I went on to teach for 16 more years, had our son, Jake, and celebrated my 30 year wedding anniversary with Mike.” MS has begun to affect Patti’s extremities, making walking difficult. She uses a wheelchair to get around in her home, making it a challenge to navigate everyday tasks, such as using the shower. “As my disease progresses, Mike needs to stick close to home to assist me. The opportunity to make my bathroom accessible will be such a blessing!

Mike and Patti met Daryl at the MS Forward gym, where he introduced them to the Re-Bath® grant. Your donations will not only provide additional funding for Patti Hasty’s bathroom project, but help MS Forward with the funds needed to purchase new gym equipment and continue on its mission to provide an accessible community space to battle MS for years to come.

Check out our 2020 recipients. The Diggs were great to work with and such an amazing couple!
