On August 31, 2018, John survived a heart attack through excellent and expert care by local Tomahawk and Wausau medical teams. A stent was placed in John's most-blocked artery but, unfortunately, further surgery is required to deal with additional damage to his heart vessels.

Many folks know John because of his years in the local Northwoods music community as a musician, instructor and two-time music store co-owner/owner (Community Music Center and Northwoods Guitar, LLC ). Even while pursuing other career opportunities over the years, music has been a constant passion and driving force for John.

By sharing music and teaching people how to play guitar, bass, ukulele, dobro, mandolin, banjo, drums and more, John has touched many lives with the gift of music. As well, his skill at maintaining and repairing instruments has helped musicians across the Northwoods play the best they can. Years as a live sound engineer-for-hire and as resident overseer at Northwoods Vineyard Church have given John the chance to help  deliver moving performances to crowds large and small. Many from his early past may even remember him carting his home stereo around to junior high school parties and "spinning records" for the guys and gals!! :-)

Coronary bypass is needed to restore proper function to John's cardiovascular system and is estimated to take place around mid-October 2018. As a small-business owner in Tomahawk, John is faced with the tough situation of no income from teaching, repairs or sales while Northwoods Guitar is closed during his time of recuperation.

John and his lovely wife Mare (also an amazing musician), like many families nowadays, don't have tremendous reserves of savings to tide them over during an unforeseen medical event like this and will be strapped and beyond to pay bills, get to all necessary follow-up appointments, deal with insurance co-pays and simply provide for the day-to-day expenses over the time it takes to heal from surgery and rehab before being able to get back to teaching and running the music store.

Any money raised through donations, gifts, etc. will be used to help John and Mare transition through the most difficult immediate changes that heart surgery is going to bring as well as help them (hopefully) avoid more dire consequences like medical bankruptcy or losing their home in the months to come.

Prayers and well-wishes are so very appreciated and have already flooded in since the sudden event caught everyone off-guard and they are grateful to be surrounded by people that love and care for them so much. Hearts are filled with the joy of knowing that they are not alone during this trying time. Any financial assistance above that would be a considerable blessing in many ways.
