Rallying for Connor

On August 7th our dear friends Mike & Caroline Van Damme were faced with every parents worst nightmare, they were told their healthy, vivacious , incredibly smart, active 6 year old has cancer.

Connor had a little bump form on his rib. They had seen a doctor and had it x-rayed back in June and were still waiting to hear when the ultrasound would be. He was completely fine, normal, healthy active 6 year old until last week when he started to feel really sick, have high fevers, feel weak, had a hard time breathing, walking, sitting or even laying down.

After multiple trips to emergency Caroline was told to head down immediately to Victoria General Hospital , it wasn’t long after that they they were both being air lifted to Vancouver. They have met with so many specialists, doctors & nurses to try to figure out what it’s going on.

It was then they were told Connors bump on his rib is attached to a very large mass taking up most of his left chest/lung. He has fluid around his left lung which is causing immense pressure and pushing everything over to his right side. Connor only has one lung functioning currently. It’s is CANCER.

Connor has had chest tubes put in place to drain the fluid. He has multiple tests, blood work and even biopsy’s to try and figure out exactly what form of cancer Connor has.

He has gone from a normally over active, free spirited, non stop energy 6 year old last week to now in intensive care who is barely able to move.

All the Van Damme family ask’s is that you keep their CON-MAN in your thoughts and prayers. He is such a tough boy like his dad, we have no doubts he will be back to an over active, high energy loving 6 year old in no time.

Mike & Caroline will be at BC CHILDREN’S hospital for the foreseeable future, unable to work as they will focusing on getting Connor healthy and home.
