My brother-in-law Jeff and sister Kristy, 2 nephews Austin and Colby need your help. Jeff was diagnosed with a rare form of bone marrow cancer in December of last year (MPN/MDS overlap syndrome ... Myelodysplastic/Myeloproliferative neoplasm )Jeff has been going through chemo treatments since beginning of March in hopes that it would reduce the number of blast and decrease the platelets, however his blast are increasing and his platelets are not being kept under control.
They have been to 3 doctors who all call his case unique but all agree on 1 thing, his only chance of a cure is for a bone marrow (stem cell) transplant. Things have quickly progressed and at this point there is no time to spare. They are having a hard time controling his plately count and he is currently showing 15% blast in his bone marrow, at 20% he will be diagnosed with acute luekemia, so the doctors want to stop it before it gets to that point.
Jeff and my sister will have to relocate to Durham as soon as the donor has agreed to a transplant date. During this time my sister "gurl" will be Jeff's 24 hour caregiver. She is planning on taking some time off work to learn the in's and out's of taking care of him (during that time she will not be paid) and she is hoping to work from Durham while she takes care of him, but that is still up in the air. They will more than likely be relocating before the end of July and even after the 3 month stay in Durham Jeff's recovery will take months.
While they are only relocating temporarily their bills and current residence will still need to be maintained and money should be the least of their worries. Please consider making a donation to help them out during this long difficult journey.
From Jeff and Kristy: We were told by our first doctor that he was unsure why God choose him, only 10% of any one who has a Myelodysplastic or Myeloproliferative neoplasm develops an overlap and they are 65-70 years old, so his case is rare and unique. But he is praying for us and we have a lot of people on our side. We are so thankful for everyone who has helped us to this point, and appreciate anything you are able to do to get us through the toughest time in our lives!
