THEIR STORY
At the end of May Dr Norman Sellers, Bible College Professor and Pastor, and his wife, Mellony were involved in a serious auto accident while traveling in WV. They were taken to a trauma unit in a Charleston, WV hospital, where it was found that Dr Sellers had sustained multiple fractures in his pelvis, along with a fractured rib. Several other issues arose, including pneumonia, which landed him in intensive care and caused no small amount of concern for the outcome. Meanwhile Mellony not only suffered from being battered in the car, but a suspicious nodule was found on her lung which she was admonished to look into when they get home.
Rev & Mellony were not vacationing when this happened but had gone to WV after receiving a call telling Mellony that her brother had died, and they needed to arrange for his burial and handle his final affairs.
Now, Almost a month later, the Sellers are facing new challenges and big changes in their lives. While Dr Sellers has done remarkably well, he is still basically wheelchair bound, and still needing assistance with his activities of daily living; this being made more difficult since Mellony truly cannot physically care for him due to complications which she suffers with from her previous lumpectomy and the lymphedema that is a continual problem for her; and now her need to get her lung checked for something that may require further medical and/or surgical intervention.
He is expected to be discharged from rehab on June 29th and Mellony has been searching for the best way to get them both home. According to the doctors transportation by ground is not an option and after careful and lengthy research, they have chosen to arrange for air ambulance transport. Also, a friend of Mellony’s, who is an RN, has agreed to fly down with them in order to help Mellony get the house wheelchair ready and safe.
THE REQUEST
Many who have heard of this have asked how they can help the Sellers. The Lord has blessed them along this difficult road with good medical help, friends who have been supportive with housing and transportation, and spiritual uplifting as well as some financial help; and Rev and Mellony are very grateful to all who are helping and praying for them.
Yet, they are still in need of your assistance because they are both on fixed incomes with large medical issues. The bills are mounting and the ability to pay has decreased. Donating through this GOFUNDME account will be a great help to both Dr. Sellers and Mellony as they struggle to get their health back.
Some current specific needs are:
Help to pay for their flight home- an air ambulance appears to be the best option for getting
Dr Sellers home with the least amount of disturbance to his fractures.
Help to pay for assistance for Dr Sellers on a daily basis
Further rehab for Dr Sellers to aid in getting him mobile again
Help to pay for the extra supplies that will be needed in the home
We are estimating the cost to be
flight - between $14,000.00 - $20,000.00
WV medical bills (their 20%) - $40,000.00 - $70,000.00
FL Rehab ( their 20%) - $5,000.00 - $9,000.00
Home Assistance ( unable to determine length of time needed so this is an ball park estimate) - could be $2,200.00 per week; expecting him to need this for approximately 1- 2 months = $8,800.00 - $17,600.00
