>>Hi, I am Kyle James, a self-employed photographer & film-maker living year round in Sun Peaks, BC Canada since 2016.
>>On October 30th 2019 (4 months after launching my freelance photo/video business) I was diagnosed with cancer. A whirlwind of just 24 hours saw me in emergency surgery and recovering on the couch at home all before the stroke of midnight on Halloween. The surgery was initially hailed as a success.
>>Since then I have been monitored and receiving frequent scans and blood tests, all of which were encouraging until my most recent followup (May 2020). This new scan showed areas of concern where metastis was forming and it emerged that this area of concern had been present all along, overlooked, and developing in length since my surgery in October 2019.
>>Following this recent discovery I am now on a 9 week course of chemotherapy ending on August 10th 2020, with an estimated 6 week recovery period. It is suspected it will take that long for me to regain my usual functions and capabilities. My doctor anticipates that I will do well through the treatment as I am ‘young and fit’ with an estimated 90-95% chance of full, healthy recovery following the chemotherapy treatment.
>Being as I have been self-employed since June 2019, these 15 weeks throw a spanner in the works as I do not qualify for government assistance (medical or regular). As challenging as that has been, compounded with the global pandemic, my business has lost thousands of dollars in booked jobs. Our financial concern is increasing as my partner Malina is working full time as well as selflessly caring for my needs after each chemotherapy session. I have created this GoFundMe to reach out to my family, friends, and community for help.
Any funds graciously raised will go towards:
>Medical bills (prescription drugs)
>Rent
>Travel costs to and from chemotherapy
>Monthly bills
>Therapy (to help with the mental game)
>Nutritionalist & recommended food
