Rally Around The Parkers

Jim Parker was recently diagnosed with ALS (Lou Gehrig's disease).  It is a nervous system disorder that causes progressive weakening of all the muscles in the body and eventual paralysis. There is no cure.  It is a very expensive disease due to the specialized equipment needed to care for patients as the disease progresses.

Less than a year ago Jim was a music minister at his family's church.  He was a singer and piano player for many services.  He was a beloved school bus driver for his local elementary school and he even cut and styled hair at a salon to help support his family. He helped his wife Rene raise 6 children (4 are siblings they adopted as small children).  They have 5 beautiful granddaughters they help take care of.  Now Jim is almost wheelchair bound.  He uses a portable ventilator at night while he sleeps. He cannot sing or play the piano any more.  In a week or two he will have a feeding tube placed because eating is becoming difficult.

Now his ability to leave his home is in jeopardy.  Jim has a wheelchair and a ramp has been built which allows Rene to take Jim down to their van so he can go on outings and to docto'sr appointments.  But Jim is now so weak, Rene cannot get him from the wheelchair and into the van.

Jim and Rene are in desperate need of a wheelchair accessible van.   This will allow Jim to travel to his appointments,  to church services and his grandchildren's activities.  Donations would go towards the purchase of a van and to cover other medical expenses.
