Raising money to get Irish Citizenship
Hi! My name is Charlie. A few years ago I used GFM to help me raise money for gender affirming top surgery, which I ended up getting in 2021. Everyone who donated was such a big help and I am so grateful.
Now, I'm pretty much almost finished my transition, except for my legal name and gender marker. I am not an Irish citizen, despite living here since I was 6 years old. I have UK citizenship and England is not a very trans-friendly country, and it becomes less so every year. I already have an Irish gender recognition certificate that states my chosen name and gender but the UK does not recognise this. I would have to go through the English gender care system from the beginning if I was to get a UK gender recognition cert, which would then allow me to change my birth cert and passport.
My passport has recently expired, and I want to get a new one as soon as possible, and I want it to be one that has my actual name and gender.
I have decided its easier to - and I probably would have done this eventually in my life anyway as I have no intention to leave Ireland - get Irish Citizenship. This will mean I can avoid having to deal with the transphobic and time consuming restrictions the UK has in place altogether.
Cost breakdown:
Naturalisation application fee: €175
If application is accepted: €950
Any and all donations help, as does sharing. Thank you so much for reading <3
