Raising Money for my Alma Mater in Kenya

Donation protected

Hello, my name is Paul Kangethe and I am a Kangemi Primary School alumnus.  My wife, Beatrice, and I am asking for your kindness and generosity to help raise funds for my alma mater; a public school in Kenya which I attended during my elementary years.  I have fond memories of the school and have deep roots there. I visit with the teachers and students every time I have the opportunity to do so.

About the School

The Kangemi Primary school is a public school in Nairobi County, Westlands subcounty in the Kangemi slums in Kenya.  It was started in 1927.  Today there is a total of 2500 students in the school.  Since all the students who now attend the school come from humble backgrounds, where getting a meal can be a problem, their families are unable to contribute towards the development and management of the school.

The school is currently faced with these challenges:

·         they need a minimum of 100 desks for grades 1 thru 7
·         300 lockers and chairs for grade 8
·         the classes need printer/copy machines
·         chairs for the teachers staffroom
·         water fountains for the students
·         renovations for a leaking and un-maintained swimming pool

·         the entire building needs fresh paint

And possibly most important, the school needs to complete the building of a perimeter wall around the premises for privacy and protection from slum dwellers.

When I first visited the school, I thought “how can the children learn like this.”  It saddened my heart to see the school struggling in this way. I wanted so much to help them in any way that I could.  While the school has positive, outgoing and compassionate teachers, they unfortunately lack the resources needed to provide the students with a safe and effective learning environment.

The money raised for this effort will first go towards the purchase of desks for the students.  Once that need is met, we hope to have money left to begin provisions for the remainder of the list.

I want to thank you in advance for your contribution and support. This cause is very dear to my heart and I implore you to help the children.  Even if you are not able to donate yourself, please support this effort by sharing it with others you know by posting it on your social media page.  And remember that no contribution is too small, every single dollar helps.

Below is a short video of one of my visits to the Kangemi Primary School.  These are good kids, who have a desire to learn, and they deserve to be able to sit at a desk while they learn; they deserve an opportunity for a good education, in a safe environment…..they deserve to have all the things that those of us who are more fortunate take for granted.

I go to sleep every night thinking about these students and praying for God to bless our fundraising effort.  My prayers also go out to all of you.  Again, I thank you.
